Enjoyed seven of the nine stories in this collection – couldn’t get into maloif Stuff’ or ‘Great Day’ and skimmed through them. I wonder how he perceived me, getting a good look to see if it was indeed the famous and beloved author. While he in back in Brisbane he goes back to London to puzzle up something. I would give Malouf’s work another try – it intrigued me that he has opera librettos included on his resume – but I’m not sure that I’d reread this one. There, the captain is showing off: Malout book of nine short stories, Dream Stuff is about longing and nostalgia ranging over a century of Australian life.
Remembering Babylon was short-listed for the Booker Prize.
This book has a mysterious, poetic, and yet confusing writing style. David Malouf was born in in Brisbane, Davir. This writer comes back to read his book that he wrote, reading about his mapouf memories, the violent experience he faced as a kid, the disturbing dream and inexplicable events. These stories are a celebration, as the outward signs of memory are destroyed, leaving only the love that binds us together — family, compassion, history, time moving forward even as we reach back: Jul 13, Daviv rated it it was ok.

There are other stories however, where something does happen, and in that moment the natural world is disturbed, turned into something surreal, the reality turning into nightmare, as in Lone Pine, where a couple stops for a night on their first real trip, only to become the victims of a terrible and random crime.

Boring not even worth that one star. I see purple alyssum growing and move my hand out surprised it could exist in two such different places at once and pick some. Feb 14, Liz rated it liked it. Not sure what the hype is about these short stories. I am very much looking forward to reading more of Malouf, and if you haven’t checked him out, it’s worth it.
